OverviewForty hours of flight training are mandatory, but we have found in our experience that the average flight student needs about 50 to 60 hours. FAR Part 61.109 requires the following minimum number of hours: 40 hours flight time consisting of: 20 hours minimum flight training 10 hours supervised solo flight training 10 hours advanced trainingThe flight training can be completed within three weeks (for professionals) and four weeks for most others, assuming good weather for the entire period. When paired with a valid medical certificate and the required periodic flight review, the US PPL is valid for life. It is also a fairly simple matter to reactivate an inactive license. To do this, you will need a new, valid medical and a flight review with an flight instructor. Pilots must complete a flight review every 24 month which includes a minimum of 1 hour of flight and 1 hour of Ground instruction. |
